California Health Department Services Report: An Evaluation of the Possible Risks for Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMFs) from Power Lines, Internal Wiring, Electrical Occupations, and Appliances

This major report published in June 2002 and taking account a period of public consultation, cited five illnesses as possibly causally related to increased exposure to power frequency magnetic fields: childhood leukaemia, adult leukaemia, adult brain cancer, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Motor Neurone Disease) and miscarriage.

This Report is unique in providing extensive justification for its evaluation of health risks. For each health outcome considered, the arguments for and against a link with EMF exposure is given in 14 tables, covering the Hill Criteria as used in epidemiology, as well as additional factors. The full Report extends to over 900 pages. Volume 1 including appendices extends to 567 pages. The extensive comments as a result of public consultation are provided in Volume 2.
